It is said that the inventor of shopping carts, Sylvan Goldman, has to pay male models in his stores to walk around using them as men found them too effeminate. Why might the ability to bring more groceries home to your family have been initially seen as effeminate in 1930’s America?

In most of Joan of Arc's cultural depictions, Charles VII is reffered to as "the Dauphin", even by his followers. Wouldn't that be insulting, given he was technically King for seven years already when he met the Maid?
